Some sites you might find of interest...

Listed on this page are some of the websites that I have found useful in my study of Southdown Motor Services Ltd - whatever the period of operation. If there are others that you think are worthy of inclusion please drop me a line with details on the 'contact us' page.

Southdown Enthusiasts Club

Established in 1954, it caters for its membership by providing information about the current operators in the former Southdown area, as well as researching into the Company's history.nn

Southdown Historic Vehicles Ltd

Website of a group of former Southdown employees who formed a company to preserve vehicles that were owned and operated by Southdown Motor Services.

Southcoast Motor Services

This restoration group was formed in 1988 with the intention of saving and preserving buses and coaches from a golden age, and after successfully obtaining a licence in 1999 we now operate some of our collection for the pleasure of others. The website is very informative populated with a wealth of excellent images of the vehicles they own, all of which are presented in excellent condition. A particular favourite of mine is the engineering blog where progress on the current projects is recorded in detail.

Classic Buses Profiles

The Classic Buses website has several pages relevant to Southdown and these have provided me with clues to several mysteries as I have researched pictures over the years. Each page has its own button.

Hampshire Bus and Coach Preservation

This website is run by a small family from Winchester with a genuine interest in Buses and Coaches that have operated in or around Hampshire during the 70's & 80's. They a small but significant collection of vehicles from the area including two from Southdown.

Bus Lists on the Web

This is an invaluable website when trying to identify vehicles from any operator in the UK. It contains a fantastic searchable database and is a credit to the site creator.

Bristol Commercial Vehicles Enthusiasts

Another useful website for research - Rob Sly has built up a superb collection of data relating to Bristol vehicles.

Kingsway Models

Superb card kits useful for any modeller working in 1/76th scale items - road or rail based. There is an emphasis towards London Transport but there is a growing collection of provincial operators buildings. These include Southdown M S and thus far you can purchase Bognor Regis Bus Station, a section of Chichester Bus Garage and Hayling Island Garage.

Ace Model Buses

This site caters for all your model bus requirements. Exclusive First Editions, Britbus, Corgi, Oxford etc. British and continental models all at very good prices with exceptional customer service and communications. If you purchase from Melvyn please mention Southdown NBC! Thank you!
