Bristol RE

The Bristol marque had (until 1968) only been available to bus companies that were 'fully nationalised'. When this changed several BET (British Electric Traction) companies immediately opted to start purchasing them, Southdown Motor Services included. At that time is was widely accepted that the Bristol RE was the best rear engine single decker chassis available. In the ensuing 3 years Southdown amassed a fleet of over 70 Bristol REs with bodies from two suppliers.
